Complete AV block with long pause (9.5 seconds) and syncope developed one minute after termination of exercise. Thallium-201 SPECT and coronary angiogram did not show significant ischemia. The cause of exercise-induced complete AV block in this case may be attributable to drug effect, autonomic imbalance or conduction disease.

Haemodynamics during a complete exercise induced atrioventricular block.

The case is reported of an athlete who, during an exercise test, had a complete atrioventricular block without symptoms of cardiac output failure. Heart rate, stroke index, cardiac index, and myocardial contractility were monitored during the episode by an impedance cardiograph. The most important findings of this report are the continuous increase in stroke index, which compensated for the lac...

Second-degree Atrioventricular (Mobitz 1) Heart Block in a 52-hour-old Newborn: A Very Rare Case Report

Background: Cardiac conduction disorders are rare syndromes in neonates and children. According to the literature atrial septal defect, especially ostium secundum type, is associated with atrioventricular (AV) block. Wenckebach conduction heart block is very rare in a neonate; however, there is a dearth of research on the prevalence of this type of heart block regarding the neonates and pediatr...

[Congenital atrioventricular block and Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome].

We report the case of a patient followed since childhood for congenital complete atrioventricular block. At 28 years of age, atrioventricular conduction through an accessory pathway with long conduction times was detected. Periods of atrioventricular conduction alternated with periods of atrioventricular block. Sinus tachycardia and 1:1 exclusive conduction through the accessory pathway develop...

Hyperkalemia-induced complete heart block

Background: Potassium, as an extracellular ion, plays an important role in the electrophysiologic function of the myocardium and any change in extracellular concentration of this ion might have a marked impression upon myocyte electrophysiologic gain. High serum potassium levels are thought to impair pulse conduction in Purkinje fibers and ventricles more than that in the Atrio...

Syncope caused by cough-induced complete atrioventricular block.

Cough syncope is a well-recognized syndrome in which loss of consciousness follows a bout of prolonged coughing. The pathophysiology of this syndrome has been attributed to lowered cerebral perfusion pressure consequent on an increased intrathoracic pressure, which lowers cardiac output (by a Valsalva mechanism) and impairs cerebral venous return. We report a case of cough-induced syncope in wh...
